CHRIS ROBINSON SIGNS WITH TEXAS RANGERS

Former London Badger catcher Chris Robinson has signed a minor-league contract with the Texas Rangers organization and will be invited to spring training with his new team in Arizona.

Chris just completed a very busy season that included posting a .316 batting average with 15 doubles, one home run, and 29 RBI in 66 games with the Chicago Cubs Triple-A affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa. His season was capped off by being part of Canada’s Gold Medal winning team at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico along with two other former London Badgers Jamie Romak and Brock Kjeldgaard.

Robinson had some comments about what he sees as a great opportunity with the Texas Rangers, “The opportunity that the Rangers have presented is great for me. I feel that the things I can bring to a club they really value and look for in their players. I'm lucky to have had the contact and communication with their front office and my excitement is magnified by their interest in me as a player. I'm really looking forward to getting to Spring Training, meeting the new team and staff and making a good impression.”

He went on to speak of his time with the Chicago Cubs organization where in the past three seasons he had worked his way up the ladder to Triple-A. “I had some great years in the Cubs organization and I have made friends there that I will always have. The people are going to be what I miss the most! I loved playing in Des Moines and will definitely miss the city and the fans, but there comes a time in your career where you have an opportunity to put yourself in a better position to achieve your goals. I feel like with the Rangers, this is the case.” Robinson said.

Chris was originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the June 2005 MLB draft before being traded to Chicago in 2006.
